Daniel D’Amico: Myth versus Reality of Mass Incarceration
Fergus Hodgson, 26 February 2017
The United States has a reputation for being the incarceration nation, but is that deserved?
Daniel D’Amico is associate director of the Political Theory Project at Brown University and a lecturer of economics. He demonstrates that this rise of inmates is not unique, and he also dispels the notion that US justice stands out for its racial biases. That, however, does not change the fact that incarceration has grown sharply in recent decades, with an expensive impact on both the economy and particular communities.
