Re-Discovering A Forgotten Idaho Silver District
| |
The Hercules Mine in Idaho produced high-grade silver in the early 1900s and then saw another round of exploration from the 1960s to the 1980s.
When low silver prices in the 1980s caused the previous owner to part ways with Hercules, it lay fallow for almost 40 years until Hercules Silver (BIG.V; BADEF.OTCQB) saw the chance to breathe new life into it in 2021.
Applying modern exploration techniques, Hercules Silver has dramatically expanded the potential map for silver mineralization here and homed in on a potential large copper-gold porphyry target at depth.
| | | |
Hercules Silver’s (BIG.V; BADEF.OTCQB; FWB: 8Q7) stock symbol “BIG” nicely sums up the potential of its flagship Hercules silver project in Idaho.
|
The project produced silver from a small, high-grade mine in the early 1900s.
Then it received 28,000 meters of drilling from a previous operator that outlined a silver-lead-zinc system with an historical resource of some 24 million ounces of silver.
|
But the post-boom crash for silver in the 1980s convinced the previous company to shutter operations on the project, and it then went largely forgotten until Hercules Silver purchased the project in 2021.
|
Now, with silver showing signs of a strong rebound and Hercules having applied modern exploration techniques on the project, it’s poised to expand significantly.
Consider this: Starting with a recently completed drill program to verify the historical resource at Hercules, the company is now about to embark on a property-wide drill program that will test for extensions of that resource...and for a potential behemoth porphyry target on the project’s east side.
|
The upside via exploration here is extraordinary, and it’ll be supported by an existing historical silver resource that could soon get proved up to NI 43-101 compliance.
|
The bottom line: Just as silver takes off, you can own a back-stopped, high-reward silver play with a potentially huge copper-gold kicker.
|
Grabbing The Low-Lying Fruit
|
The shallow mineralization outlined by previous owners at Hercules includes over 300 drill holes of data covering fully 3.5 kilometers of strike.
Hercules Silver tested the historical drilling around the Frogpond and Hercules Adit zones. The goal was to verify historical holes so that they could potentially be included in a future resource estimate, incorporating both historical and new modern step out drilling to significantly expand on the historical work.
|
The drilling was successful, with highlight holes from the late 2022 drilling including 38 meters of 353 g/t silver, 0.64% lead, 2.28% zinc and 0.16% copper.
|
Results like that suggest Hercules will soon be able to establish a very significant NI 43-101 compliant resource of their own at Hercules, as they are also looking to step out in all directions on the historical resource in their next phase of drilling.
But that potential resource is just the start of what could be a huge discovery upside for the Hercules project.

Phase II Looks To Expand Resource At Depth
|
That upside is driven by the fact that the previous drilling on Hercules has been fairly shallow, with prior drill holes just getting into the fringes of a potentially larger system.
How much larger?
The company believes, based on new geochemical and geophysical surveying and modern geological mapping, that the system may be up to 30 times bigger than the area that the previous company had focused on.
You see, the previous owners were just looking for the shallow mineralization and never applied modern exploration techniques to the project.

The 3D IP survey above shows the potential. Right now, Hercules Silver believes that the surface oxide mineralization has been drilled above the main chargeability anomaly underlying the Frogpond and Hercules Adit targets.
With deeper, angled drilling, the company aims to test this potentially large sulphide target. This theory is supported by the fact that the deepest historical holes bottomed in increasing sulphide mineralization.
| |
With the Phase 1 drill results now in and the Phase II drill program planned for this spring, Hercules Silver will have exploration results to continue to feed the market for the next several months.
That will include additional targets generated from an in-depth analysis of the modern geochemical and Terraspec alteration data recently collected by the company. The new data is producing a “heatmap,” outlining the strongest hydrothermal alteration on the property, where Phase II drilling may encounter potentially even stronger grades.
The Phase II drilling will also test for a large copper-porphyry feeder system on the east side of the property. A discovery on that front could add a potentially large tonnage copper-gold element to Hercules Silver’s story.
|
Right now, though, the focus is on expanding the historical resource areas at Hercules, a prospect that, given large targets the company has to pursue, could deliver market-moving results in the days just ahead.
|
Located in the mining friendly jurisdiction of Idaho and blessed with good infrastructure, the Hercules project is an overlooked gem that may not stay that way for long.
If you want in on the discovery potential of this upcoming drill program, you’ll want to look into Hercules Silver soon.
