The same Discovery Group that shepherded Great Bear Resources to a C$1.8 billion takeout is looking for its next big winner.
And it may have just found it in Kodiak Copper (KDK.V; KDKCF.OTCQB), which happens to have former Great Bear CEO Chris Taylor as its chairman.
After his big success at Great Bear, Taylor has had more time to focus on Kodiak’s MPD project, another project where he thought a fresh take on a project’s geology could yield similar success.
MPD had previously been explored near-surface for copper and gold but had never been truly tested for a richer underlying copper-gold system.
Kodiak discovered high-grade porphyry mineralization at MPD in 2020, and the company is arguably undervalued based on that discovery alone.
But the company has a theory (and as you’ll see, compelling geological evidence) that the project hosts a cluster of copper-gold porphyry centers at depth.
That theory is being bolstered the fact that there are 18 target zones so far at MPD — three of which have already been confirmed by drilling, with a massive drill campaign about to target several more in the days ahead.

Another Winner In The Discovery Group Portfolio
Kodiak’s status as a Discovery Group company gives it access to elite technical and financial talent in the junior mining industry.
Discovery Group companies enjoy shared access to expertise, contacts and capital, and through their various entities, control dozens of projects on four continents.
Discovery Group, of which Kodiak Copper is a part, is led by a group of serial entrepreneurs that have generated C$2.6 billion in M&A since 2016.
Discovery Group has generated C$2.6 billion in M&A since 2016. Simply put, this is a team that knows how to move explorers along the discovery and development curve.
Kodiak Copper has the added benefit of having former Great Bear CEO Chris Taylor as its chairman and former Rio Tinto GM Claudia Tornquist as CEO.
It also counts Discovery Group principal and serial entrepreneur John Robins as its advisor.
And this team sees in Kodiak’s MPD project the same chance to make a big discovery that it had on Great Bear’s Dixie project.

The First Discovery’s Already Been Made
Thanks to successful deep drilling on MPD’s Gate Zone, Kodiak already has its first higher grade copper-gold porphyry center discovery under its belt.
The area had a history of modest-grade, near-surface copper-gold, but previous operators had attempted only very few holes deeper than 200 meters.
In looking at the data, Taylor saw the opportunity to make a discovery at depth, and in 2020, set about testing that theory.
The effort produced a discovery hole at Gate announced in September 2020, of 282 meters of 0.70% copper and 0.49 g/t gold, including 45.7 meters of 1.41% copper and 1.46 g/t gold.
A 2020 discovery hole at MPD’s Gate zone led Kodiak to outline a significant copper-gold porphyry center at depth.
That hole would spark a C$12.7 million private placement in Kodiak and put it on a path of defining a significant copper-porphyry center at Gate.

Copper-Gold Porphyries Can Come In Bunches
In This Part Of The World
With a legitimate discovery established at Gate, Kodiak moves into 2023 looking to find look-alike high-grade copper-gold porphyry centers on MPD.
Nearby deposits like the Copper Mountain mine have proven to host multiple, mineable centers within close proximity.
The evidence is certainly there that there could be many more centers to find on MPD.
Kodiak has at least 18 potential target zones to test for copper-porphyry centers on its flagship MPD project in south-central British Columbia.
Take the Man target that’s due to get drilled this year.
Like Gate, Man has been drilled for near-surface mineralization in the past, but never been truly tested at depth.
Also like Gate, Kodiak has identified a large geophysical anomaly at depth that could suggest the presence of a larger system. This year, Kodiak will drill Man below 200 meters, setting it up as a potential discovery of its own.
Another prospect sits on the southern portion of MPD. The 1516 target shares the same structural setting as the Gate zone, including sitting on the next structural break, after the one at Gate, on a north-south trending geophysical trend.
The previous operators barely tested 1516, leaving the target wide open to host a copper-gold porphyry center at depth.
Kodiak plans an aggressive, 25,000-meter drill program this year to test these theories out, and it has several other targets besides Man and 1516 to test as well.

Perfect Timing To Jump On Board
Despite the discovery at Gate, Kodiak Copper is still in the early phases of outlining the mineralization at MPD.
The good news: This year’s massive drill program on the project has the potential to deliver one or more potential home runs in terms of new discoveries.
If you like copper and gold for long term and you want to get on board with what could be Discovery Group’s next big winner, you’ll want to start taking a closer look at Kodiak Copper now.
