For more years than I care to remember, my friend Rick Rule has enjoyed throwing me curve balls from the podium at my annual New Orleans Investment Conference.

As he has expertly moderated our junior mining share panel over recent decades, Rick has delivered zingers like...

“Brien, which of your fully-paid exhibiting companies at this conference would you recommend that attendees sell immediately?”

The audience always laughs, and so do I. But I often counter by introducing Rick as the host of the world’s second-best investment event. (More on that in a moment.)

I’m writing you now because, just a few days ago, I relished the chance to turn the tables on Rick. I interviewed him for Golden Opportunities to get his latest views on the metals and the mining share market — subjects on which he’s renowned as the most astute analyst around today.

But Rick has shared with me that he doesn’t like to talk macro-economics, because he feels there’s plenty of other experts better than him on that subject.

So I took the opportunity to lead off with that topic in my interview with him. As you’ll see, he took that curve ball and put it over the fence.

One thing you’ll notice is that Rick and I finished our talk by discussing one of the best ways to get insightful views and predictions on not only the macro picture, but the metals themselves and the best opportunities in junior mining.
