The Ukrainian resistance to Russian domination should have been a celebrated success for liberty. However, as Roman Skaskiw explains, that message struggled to get through, given immense Russian efforts to muddy the message and co-opt libertarian and rogue outlets.

A New Yorker and former member of the US military, he has lived in Kiev, Ukraine, since 2012. He now works as a software entrepreneur and is a long-time participant in the liberty movement, including ardent support for the 2008 and 2012 Ron Paul campaigns for president.

His bird’s-eye view of the 2014 revolution and Russian takeover of Crimea put him at odds with many libertarian voices back stateside. His dismay at the pro-Putin libertarian voices led him to write a trilogy of essays, beginning with “Putin’s Libertarians.”
