Thanks to a couple of major recent discoveries, a modern-day gold rush is in full swing in Newfoundland.
Boasting an enviable land package, a full treasury and drilling programs on multiple projects, Exploits Discovery Corp. (NFLD.CN; NFLDF.OTC) has the inside track in the race to find the region’s next big gold deposit.
| | |
Gold districts don’t come any hotter than Newfoundland right now.
|
A multi-million-ounce resource outlined by Marathon Gold sparked the initial interest in the project in the mid-2010s, but it was New Found Gold’s high-grade Keats discovery in 2019 that kicked off a full-on gold rush in the province.
How intense has the land grab been? Well, just take a look at the two maps below.
| |
Already covered with claims in December 2020, the map exploded with new property positions over the ensuing six months, as explorers locked up the last pieces of Newfoundland’s Exploits subzone.
|
Note, in particular, all the red on those maps. Those are the properties controlled by Exploits Discovery Corp. (NFLD.CN; NFLDF.OTC).
|
Thanks to an early-mover advantage, executing JVs in January 2020 and winning big in the first staking rush, Exploits controls one of the region’s most prospective land packages, giving it pole position on making Newfoundland's next big gold discovery.

How Newfoundland Came Into
Its Own As A Gold District
|
A question an investor might well ask is: How did Newfoundland only now find its way onto the gold sector’s radar?
The answer lies in the province’s land tenure history.
For decades up until the 1970s and 1980s, a local family owned most of the land and a good portion of the mineral rights in Exploits subzone region.
Since the family wasn’t in the mining business at the time, almost no exploration got done on the area during that period.
Exploration activity happened in spurts between the 1980s and 2010s, but most of it consisted of shallow drilling to test for near-surface deposits.
Then, in the mid-2010s, Marathon Gold outlined a significant gold resource on its Valentine Lake deposit, which helped reawaken the sector to Newfoundland’s potential.
|
But it was legendary prospector Shawn Ryan, in tandem with Denis Laviolette and New Found Gold, that really sparked the rush with New Found’s high-grade Keats discovery on its Queensway project in 2019.
|
After that discovery, it was “Katy, Bar the Door” for land staking in the province.
|
One Of The Province’s
Premier Land Positions
|
Thanks to quick thinking and good connections with the major players in the region, Exploits Discovery has secured a commanding land position in the region.
| |
Amidst all that red on the map above, Exploits has secured drill permits for five target areas:
|
• Schooner: Assays are pending from the 3,000 meters Exploits drilled this summer on Schooner North
• Johnathan’s Pond: A 3,000-meter program is underway on two key targets within this large property, which Exploits considers its most promising target
• True Grit: The 3,000-meter program on this project was designed with Gold Spot Exploration and is seeking to outline high-grade mineralization within a large-scale gold target
• Quinlan Veins: Quinlan Veins will see 2,250 meters of drilling this year, with a focus on high-grade gold (up to 61.3 g/t) within several stacked quartz veins
• Little Joanna Vein: With grades of up to 91.4 g/t Au and visible gold, this target will receive a nine-hole, 2,250-meter diamond drilling program to test targets highlighted by previous surface work
|
Simply put, the best way to make a new discovery is to keep the drills turning — and Exploits is doing exactly that on its Newfoundland projects.

With all this activity in the region, it can be hard to know which companies to invest in.
That’s where following the smart money becomes critical.
|
And based on his initial C$4 million investment in Exploits in May and a follow-on, C$6.8 million financing in June, gold sector kingmaker Eric Sprott is betting big on Exploits Discovery.
|
Thanks to those two big cash injections, and the additional C$4 million New Found contributed to that May financing, Exploits Discovery has all the money it needs to aggressively drill its Newfoundland projects.
| |
Drills are turning right now on Johnathan Pond, and assays are due soon from Exploits’ initial work at Schooner North.
Plus, the company continues to identify new targets that could host the type of epizonal, orogenic gold that is the host environment for both the world class deposit at the Fosterville mine in Australia and New Found’s Keats discovery.
|
In a gold market that’s set to heat up this fall, Exploits will be delivering results from drill programs on some of Newfoundland’s most promising targets in the weeks and months ahead.
|
If you want to participate in the province’s gold discovery sweepstakes, you’ll want to follow Eric Sprott and New Found Gold’s lead and consider a position in Exploits Discovery.
