The Most Profitable 45 Minutes in Investing...

Last year's panel produced a 100% winner and a 50% winner — while the junior-mining market gained just 17%.

There's an old saying that a rising tide lifts all boats. And when enough money comes flooding into the junior mining sector, that's often exactly what happens. Just about everything starts going up, and investors begin to think they can't go wrong.
 

But at last year's New Orleans Investment Conference Mining Share Panel, Rick Rule offered an important warning. After listening to our panelists discuss the enormous amounts of capital pouring into mining stocks, Rick told the audience:

"This is a time to be more, not less, selective."

It turns out, he was right. The past year has been considerably tougher than the one that preceded it. The VanEck Junior Gold Miners ETF (GDXJ) has gained only about 17% since our panel took the stage on November 3, 2025. And that modest gain hardly tells the whole story. GDXJ soared to $157.49 in March before surrendering more than 30% of its value, leaving it around $108 today.
 

In other words, this hasn't been a market where you could throw a dart at a list of junior miners and expect to make money. You had to own the right ones.

And Some Of Our Panelists Found Them

Last year Rick did what he does particularly well, pressing our panelists for specifics about where we stood in the bull market, which commodities offered the best opportunities and where investors should be putting their money. But he wasn't going to let them get away with broad predictions about the sector.

As Rick put it, we'd already taught everyone how to catch the fish. Now it was time to "catch the fish, clean the fish, prepare the fish, and serve it up with appropriate garnish."

He wanted actual stock picks, and our panelists delivered.

Jennifer Shaigec offered three companies, including SPC Nickel, which has since doubled in value. Jordan Roy-Byrne initially tried to avoid Rick's demands by recommending the promising — and entirely fictitious — "Silver Unicorn Minerals." Rick wasn't buying it, so Jordan gave him a real name: GoGold Resources.
 

GoGold closed November 3 at C$2.51. Yesterday, it closed at C$3.76, for a gain of almost 50%.
 

That's a 100% winner and a 50% winner in a market that gained only about 17%. These results are a good reminder that picking the right companies is far more important than simply getting the direction of the market right.

Unfortunately, Rick won't be able to join us this year due to an unavoidable scheduling conflict. I'll be taking over as moderator, and I plan to follow his example by making sure our panelists give us some specific investment ideas.
