Dear Fellow Investor,
|
| I have to admit, as I sit here just a little more than a day away from the opening of this year’s big New Orleans Investment Conference….
|
| …I haven’t begun working on my presentation.
I feel like I did back in school with the big term paper due tomorrow. I shudder at the memories of those late-night sessions trying to fill as many pages as necessary!
But in truth, I’m a lot better off today, as I have a good idea of what I want to say, and show, in my charts and commentary.
|
| And thanks to an interview I just conducted with my friend Adam Taggart for his Thoughtful Money channel, I now also have a title:
“There And Back Again!”
|
| Adam asked me to summarize the journey that gold and silver had traveled to record heights — gold at around $5,400 and silver up to $120 — only to give it all up. Thinking about it, it occurred to me that we’re right back where we started 12 months ago…almost to the penny…in both metals.
And I told Adam the whole concept reminded me of the title of Tolkien’s book, “The Hobbit, or There and Back Again.”
Tolkien’s subtitle took his exciting and arduous tale, simplified it and stripped it of all context. And perhaps we should do the same for the journey that gold and silver have taken over the past year.
Because that run up and back down again was driven by the actions of western traders and speculators, and their algos, and the whole experience leaves us with two conclusions:
|
| 1) The moves do nothing to detract from the fundamental, long-term driver for gold and silver — the necessity of significant currency depreciation thanks to today’s massive debt loads.
2) The Western traders will jump back into gold and silver at some point, when they realize that the Fed can’t keep hiking rates into the face of these crippling debt-service costs.
|
| Of course, there’s a lot more to it: What other factors will act on the metals…what other metals are going to move, and why…what will be next year’s biggest winners in the junior mining space?
Plus, more broadly: What will be the impact of the mid-term elections on the economy, the markets and the Trump administration’s policy plans…when will the AI bubble deflate, and with what consequences…how long can the Fed keep up its hawkish game face?
Coincidentally, all these questions and more will be addressed just hours from now, at this year’s blockbuster 52nd annual New Orleans Investment Conference.
