Nick Hodge is on the hunt for contrarian investments, opportunities to beat the pack. Lately, via his Outsider Club newsletter, he’s been touting the merits of both medical and recreational cannabis.
In particular, he points out that retail investors can beat institutional investors, since the latter are sluggish and less likely to take on controversial industries such as cannabis. Further, the wave of liberalization is advancing rapidly, most noticeably in Canada. The Canucks are set to have nationwide legal use from early 2018, and the Toronto Stock Exchange this month opened an exchange-traded fund for the cannabis industry.
