Rick Rule Demystifies Market Psychology
Fergus Hodgson, 24 August 2016
We are only three episodes in, but the podcast is on a roll, and Rick Rule has delivered. The president and CEO of Sprott US Holdings is, in the words of Brien Lundin, “the most successful speculator in the resource industry — that’s any extractive industry out there.”
On this occasion we examine what Rule describes as the “extremely cyclical nature of the business.” The ongoing question is the source of so much turmoil: why do markets not clear peacefully? What brings the boom-and-bust cycle, and how can we profit from what is often misguided herd-like behavior?
Rule has not authored any books, but he makes an effort to chat and share his reflections with inquiring minds. In fact, he and I did just that back at the 2010 New Orleans Investment Conference, and he is eager to get there again this year. He even quips that “for some reason, when I come down to New Orleans, it’s as though I have a necklace with a golden horseshoe on it. I’ve had so much luck at the New Orleans Conference.”
