A Brilliant Light Is Flickering

Charles Krauthammer’s announcement that his illness is terminal was a shock to all of us who have come to love and appreciate this man’s genius.

In honor of his extraordinary contributions to honest and intelligent debate, we are opening our archives of Charles’ New Orleans Conference presentations to the public.

Dear Fellow Investor,

We are still in shock over Charles Krauthammer’s stunning announcement that his long battle is coming to an end.

As you may remember, Charles fell ill last year, and wasn’t able to participate as usual in our annual New Orleans Investment Conference.

He’d become a staple of our event over the last five years, and eagerly looked forward to participating every fall. He often commented on how our audience was his favorite, and amongst them he was able to relax and share his remarkable wit and wisdom like nowhere else.

Beyond his official presentations, Charles loved to mingle with our attendees in the halls of the conference, posing for photos, joking and sharing stories. He had the unique ability to give everyone around him the sense that they were in the presence of both greatness and a friend.

We’d closely tracked Charles’ recovery from his initial surgery last year, in hopes that he would have been able to participate in our Conference last fall, or our 2018 event this fall.

Our hopes were buoyed when he announced a few weeks ago that he was finally on the road to recovery...but those hopes were tragically dashed when he announced last week that his cancer had returned, and that his doctors said he had only a few weeks to live.

I, along with legions of his friends and admirers, struggled to find the words to describe our feelings. We struggled not only because it’s difficult to adequately describe such a uniquely talented individual...but also because, as is his wont, Charles’ wrote it best himself.

From his letter announcing the sad news:

“...I thank my colleagues, my readers, and my viewers, who have made my career possible and given consequence to my life’s work. I believe that the pursuit of truth and right ideas through honest debate and rigorous argument is a noble undertaking. I am grateful to have played a small role in the conversations that have helped guide this extraordinary nation’s destiny.

“I leave this life with no regrets. It was a wonderful life — full and complete with the great loves and great endeavors that make it worth living. I am sad to leave, but I leave with the knowledge that I lived the life that I intended.”

Over the past five years, I’ve had the great pleasure and honor to come to know Charles on a personal level and I'm confident that he would never allow himself to bask in the adulations that he is now receiving.

But my sincerest hope is that he understands the impact he has made on so many, and how he has helped advance intelligent, polite discourse in an age when it is so rarely seen.

Charles was widely known through his television appearances and syndicated columns, but relatively few were able to attend his presentations at the New Orleans Investment Conference...and to see his wonderfully personal, delightfully witty side that was only exposed in these more-intimate settings.

We want to show the Charles that we knew to the world, not only in honor of our friend and his contributions, but to also help spread the example he has set.

Thus, we have compiled video recordings of all of Charles’ New Orleans Conference presentations that are at hand and are making them available to anyone and everyone, free of charge or any registration. We will make further recordings available as soon as we are able to compile them.
